Endangered Species Day — Mountain Gorilla Tshirt Illustration

gorillas drawn by megan st clair illustrator

For #EndangeredSpeciesDay, I was invited to design a tshirt illustration for We Are Print Social, celebrating the (critically) endangered mountain gorilla.

The design features a gorilla and its baby nestled among lush foliage, paired with a hand-written quote on the front: “Dwell less on the past. Conserve the future.” This artwork is inspired by the incredible work of Dian Fossey and her lifelong dedication to protecting the mountain gorillas of Rwanda. It serves as a reminder to honour the past while looking toward a sustainable future.

Gorillas have always held a special place in my family’s conversations. My uncle, @ianredmond4eco, worked closely with Dian Fossey and witnessed firsthand the famous footage of David Attenborough meeting the mountain gorillas in her sanctuary. This personal connection made creating this tshirt illustration even more meaningful.

Donations from the sale of this t-shirt go directly to The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund (@savinggorillas), supporting vital gorilla conservation efforts. The t-shirt was available for pre-order for 15 days on We Are Print Social and printed on 100% combed organic cotton, ethically made and powered by sustainable energy.

Creating this design was a joy, combining illustration, storytelling, and social impact into one wearable piece.
