Megan St Clair
Cartier fashion editorial for Grazia International

Commissioned by the International team at Grazia to create an illustration for the series spotlighting Cartier’s classic timepieces. With aviation history and inspiration in the design selected, I created a loop course from the watch for a plane to fly through.

Animation for Matches Fashion exclusive capsule collection

I joined the team at Matches to create a fusion of video and animation for a capsule collection exclusive to the platform. Drawing over 400+ butterflies to create stop-motion in flight butterflies was certainly a challenge, but the outcome really elevated the collection.

As a fitness lover myself I’ve been exploring the joy in trying to diversify the types of exercise I’m doing – from yoga and weight lifting to running and stretching.

Illustrated packaging fro John Lewis by fashion and lifestyle illustrator megan st clair
Packaging design for John Lewis’ first Jewellery Advent Calendar

I was invited by the team at John Lewis to design the packaging for both the interior and exterior of the keepsake jewellery box, with an external sleeve. The inspiration started with precious stones, crystals and the Christmas campaign colour scheme. Using gold foiling we included a striking crystal edge across the exterior, with fashion faces create on the internal doors created from chains reminiscent of the delicate chains included in the calendar.

A love of nature

Within my illustration work, I’ve always been attracted to natural forms be that flowers, plants or landscapes. As part of a client job that unfortunately didn’t go into production, I produced a montage of Christmas roses, mistletoe and frosted flora.

Live portrait artist for Scotch and Soda

To celebrate the new store at Covent Garden, London the Amsterdam native brand Scotch and Soda invited me to create 10-min live illustration portraits of the customers and invited guests.

How my work is created?

All artworks in my illustration portfolio are created using the selection tool and pastel brushes. The approach focuses on the depth of layering colour and texture. Manipulating abstract shapes and forms to create colour-filled digital pastels artworks.

Working digitally in my Digital Pastels style, I’ve come to combine my loose line natural style of drawing with colour-filled selections, whilst bringing it into the mix for detailing and more minimal artworks on request. My illustration style was born out of experimentation with the digital drawing tool, Adobe Fresco.

I tend to work from inspiration found around me, in everyday life, or via imagery sourced online and combined/compiled to form new viewpoints and visions. For client projects, I often work to a brief with supplied inspirational imagery.

Over my years as an illustrator, I’ve worked on a multitude of projects as is visible across my illustration portfolio. From animated digital campaigns for luxury fashion brands, to social media assets for product launches, and so much more. I work across fashion, lifestyle, beauty, editorial, food and drink, nature, sport, packaging, photo-montage, and more.

Who have I worked with in the past?

I’ve been lucky enough to work with a wealth of clients. My client list includes the likes of Moynat, Estee Lauder, Cartier, JW Anderson, Matches Fashion, Tanqueray Gin, Stylist Magazine, Vogue and John Lewis.
